HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii reported 747 new COVID-19 infections and eight additional deaths on Friday.
The death toll from the virus is now 641.
The State Department of Health said the fatalities include:
- An Oahu woman in her 30s hospitalized
- A fifty-year-old Oahu man was admitted to the hospital
- An Oahu man in his 60s: hospitalized
- An Oahu man in his 70s died at home
- An Oahu man in his 70s hospitalized
- An 80-year-old Oahu woman hospitalized
- A Maui woman in her fifties: hospitalized
They all had underlying health conditions.
The new fatalities come a day after the state Department of Health warned that “we are still in the midst of a pandemic surge.”
The new cases bring the total number of infections since the pandemic began to 70,320.
Over the past 14 days, 10,377 cases have been reported, which are considered “active” statewide. Of the cases reported on Friday:
- 456 were in Oahu
- 140 on the island of Hawaii
- 100 in Maui
- 43 a Kauai
- 2 a Molokai
There were also six residents diagnosed out of state.
About 64.9% of the state’s population is fully vaccinated, while 73.1% have received at least one dose.
