HCSO identifies Sgt. Watson as an off-duty deputy killed in a motorcycle accident in Pearland

A sergeant from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office out of service died in an accident Saturday afternoon in Pearland, officials said. The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. near Shadow Creek Parkway and Kinsley Drive.

HCSO identified the sergeant. Bruce Watson, a 20-year veteran of the department, who had just finished an off-duty job leading a funeral procession and was on his way home. He later died of his wounds at Hermann Memorial Hospital.

The sergeant was riding a motorcycle when he was involved in an accident with an SUV. According to the Pearland Police Department, the driver stopped after the crash and showed no signs of drugs or poisoning.

Investigators said it appears to be an accident, while they are still investigating how the accident occurred.

At this time, investigators are not sure who was to blame.

“The whole sheriff’s office family is mourning the sudden loss of our long-time brother,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. “Sgt. Watson served his community with honor and distinction, and we ask everyone to raise his family in prayer during this difficult time. “

Watson, 51, was assigned to the Office of Patrol Support Services, working the night shift at the Emergency Dispatch Center. He joined the sheriff’s office in March 2000 and previously served as a detention sergeant at Harris County Jail, a patrol training officer and instructor at the training academy. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Watson is survived by his wife, a Houston Police Department officer, and his three adult sons, two daughters and a son. Watson’s funeral arrangements are pending.
