Admiral Craig Faller, commander of the U.S. Southern Command, will arrive in the Dominican Republic during Tuesday morning to attend a Caribbean nations security conference.
The forum is called the Caribbean Nations Security Conference (Cansec) and will run for two days, from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The central theme of this year’s conference will be “Fighting Illicit Trafficking and Responding to Natural Disasters in a COVID Scenario”.
Faller is expected to develop an agenda of activities that includes a meeting with the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, who is in charge of the Executive Branch in the country in the absence of President Luis Abinader.
Cansec is defined as a forum that allows heads of public safety and country defense “participants to strengthen ties, talk about regional issues, examine challenges, share lessons learned, and explore ways to improve cooperation on security issues and achieve new successes.” . It is favored annually by the Southern Command of the United States.
In person, they will participate in the event, with two representatives, Belize, United States of America, France, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Suriname.
