On the other hand, the agency portal shows that the total positive cases confirmed by the virus increased to 77,280 after adding 479 recent results.

Meanwhile, the likely cases are now 5,350 with 78 new outcomes and 58,144 suspects with a total of 454 new outcomes.

“The number of additional cases confirmed since the last report does not imply that these cases correspond to the last 24 hours. The total includes cases with samples taken from December 24, 2020 to January 7, 2021“, Detailed Health.

The agency reported that the total number of confirmed cases was adjusted to add 89 cases prior to the date of December 24, 2020. In addition, 14 duplicate cases were subtracted.

The total probable cases were also adjusted to subtract 68 cases that had a positive molecular test. The agency further downplayed a duplicate contagion.

Meanwhile, the overall number of suspicious positive cases was adjusted by subtracting 78 cases that had a positive molecular test, and one (1) case that had a positive antigen test. Similarly, four (4) cases prior to the date of December 24, 2020 were added and three (3) duplicate cases were subtracted.

The unit has not updated the number of people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Puerto Rico.

In the meantime, the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 increased to 420, of whom 75 are incarcerated in an Intensive Care Unit and 76 are connected to an artificial respirator.

There are now two pediatric patients remaining in intensive care. One of them is connected to a respirator.

To date, country hospitals have 228 intensive care beds and 821 artificial respirators available for adults.

Depending on the dependence, the confirmed positive case term refers to the contagions the result was validated by a PCR (molecular) test. The likely case is that the positive result to the disease was obtained by antigen testing. Meanwhile, suspicious cases, also known as antibody results, are those that tested positive for serology, and do not have a positive molecular or antigen test.

In addition, the agency explained a death confirmed by COVID-19 corresponds to the death of a person with one or more positive molecular tests. The probable death is the death of a patient who was diagnosed with COVID-19 by an antigen test or whose clinical picture meets the criteria for believing that he or she was suffering from COVID-19, but never had a molecular or antigen testing to detect the virus. Meanwhile, suspicious death refers to the death of a person in whom a specific antibody is detected in serum, plasma, or by a serological test with their blood.
