Heavy snowfall is expected, second winter storm later this week

DETROIT – Severe snow will invade Metro Detroit Monday night, leaving almost everyone more than half a foot away. A second storm is also set for later this week.

Winter storm warnings they are valid for all of southeast Michigan from 6 p.m. to noon Tuesday.

There won’t be many nuances or complicated forecasting issues with this one. It will simply be rough snow and, for such a prolific snowman, the amounts will not vary as much throughout the area.

Expect the lowest totals to be around 5 inches in Livingston and Genesee counties, with the highest totals up to 8 inches on the east side, which will be closest to the snow core. To check the 4ZONE page for detailed numbers.

Widespread snow will be reduced to 7 a.m. in all corners except the northeast corner of our northern area. There will be some lake-effect snow showers in our northern area during the morning, but it is unlikely that areas south of the M-59 will be able to do anything about this action.

Announcements

There is already a twin storm just behind our presidents day. We won’t get much snow out of it, as the track will be a little further east. Therefore, he is not an identical twin, only a fraternal twin.

This storm starts on Thursday afternoon and continues until Friday at noon. Accumulations appear to be between 2 and 4 inches.

The coldest air in two years has not yet arrived. It will be here Tuesday night until Wednesday morning. Our metropolitan area forecast is a minimum of 2 degrees, with some areas dropping from zero.

If you are tired of the cold and want relief, see the 10-day forecast which brings us closer to 40 degrees early next week!
