Here are the reopening plans for 18 local school divisions

ROANOKE, Va. – 10 News works for you and keeps track of what local school districts plan to do for the rest of the school year.

This list was drawn up before Governor Ralph Northam announced on Friday that students were to offer some kind of face-to-face learning before March 15th.

We will continue to update this list as we obtain new information. You can email [email protected] with questions or updates.

The school division is studying the possibility of increasing levels from 4 to 12 to four days a week from two days a week. 3rd graders have been full-time since August 11th. The division plans to see what happens next month.

The school division has been closely following local COVID data, as well as positive percentage and quarantine rates since returning from the winter holidays and is pleased to note that trends show that schools can move towards reopening for hybrid instructions on March 10th.

Announcements

Students will have the option of returning to hybrid instruction or continuing to be virtual learners.

Like the fall semester, a student can move between formats as needed according to individual circumstances.

Any student who needs to move between hybrid and virtual instruction should speak with their principal.

Similar to the fall hybrid instructional plan, PreK and first graders, as well as those in specialized classes, will have to attend four days a week instead of two. For planning purposes, students who previously attended four days a week should notify their principal if they only want to attend two days a week.

Lexington City Schools students returned to face-to-face learning on Monday, February 1st. Personally selected K-8 students will attend school Monday through Thursday with Friday as a designated home learning day. Families who choose to stay virtual have the option to do so.

Announcements

Martinsville has been virtual since March 2020, when schools were closed for in-person learning. The superintendent said that once teachers are vaccinated, the school division wants to return students to the classroom starting with early learners, students with special needs and English learners. Teachers had the option of getting vaccinated on Feb. 2 to get their first dose.

Stay where you are with four and a half days face-to-face a week for all grade levels.

Currently, Nelson County is still virtual with a provisional hybrid return for PK-3 on February 15th. No changes have been made so far.

North Cross has been open since September. “We are masked, socially distanced and we test our students every two weeks to prevent the spread of the virus. So far we have done over 5,000 tests and have had no outbreaks in the classroom. If schools are distanced and socially masked, the transmission of the disease is possible, but unlikely, ”said Chris Proctor, head of school.

Announcements

Pittsylvania County currently has students participating in person with a hybrid model. Pre-3rd through 3rd grade students, special education students, and English language learners (ECCs) attend in person four days a week. Students in grades 4-12 attend two days a week in an AB day format. Wednesdays are remote learning days for students. Parents also have the option for students to participate in a completely remote format. They have been using this modality since September 28th.

“We are currently reviewing state guidelines and planning tasks with a view to gathering more students in person, as long as we can do so safely and in accordance with current CDC and VDH guidelines,” in an email to 10 News.

All students are scheduled to return four days a week beginning February 3, 2021.

On February 19, all students will declare their learning model for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Students and families will have two models to choose from four days a week face-to-face in the school building or learn at a distance (asynchronously) at home four days a week.

“At the moment, we are practically at the limit of our capacity keeping the distance of six feet. If we can reduce this physical distance, we may be able to make some additional changes. We continue to work with the health department on our plans, ”a school spokesman said in an email to 10 News.

Announcements

“We have been offering the face-to-face option in Salem since the beginning on August 31, 2020. The School Division of the City of Salem currently meets VDOE / Governor’s expectations on face-to-face learning and has been so since the inauguration of the schools last August. We will continue to do so by following the recommendations to maintain physical distancing and face coverage, “a school spokesman said in an email to 10 News. “We continue with our own plan, which has worked well and allowed us to adhere to the 6-foot social distancing in our uniquely designed buildings. If the recommendation for physical distancing changes, allowing us to increase the number of students who can safely attend school, we are well positioned to move to higher levels of student attendance. We recognize that e-learning has been a struggle for many, and as a result, we are implementing plans to help these students with more “face-to-face” learning opportunities.

Announcements

Wythe County resumed face-to-face instruction for four days a week and Wednesday was still a virtual day for everyone.
