Massachusetts hospitals began receiving the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and Bioendech on Monday.
The Boston Medical Center received 1,950 doses Monday morning, and the hospital plans to deliver the first batch of footage to staff starting Wednesday, the center said in an email statement.
“We will launch the first wave of vaccinations for leading health workers, patient clinics treating physicians and nurses and Covit-19 patients in our ICU and emergency department, but more importantly, staff from environmental and support services and other important people working in COVID-positive patient areas Levels, ”the report says.
A PMC spokesman told Boston.com that there was a two-day interval between the arrival of the scales and when the chiefs would manage the logistics for managing the rollout. Thousands of employees will eventually receive vaccination shots at scheduled meetings from Wednesday to Saturday.
Representatives from several local health facilities, including Tufts Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital and Umas Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, are expected to attend Tuesday.
“Vaccine distribution is a very fluid situation, but for now, we expect to receive the Pfizer vaccine anytime tomorrow morning,” Duft’s spokesman Jeremy Lechson wrote in an email. “We will start giving the vaccine on Wednesday.”
Duffts expects to receive at least 975 doses in the first delivery, Lechson said. How many are finally given will determine the number of employees who will be vaccinated next week, he said.
The first dose will be given to staff, such as nurses, doctors and transportation and hospitality workers who have “direct contact with COVID-19 patients,” Lechson said.
At Boston Children’s Hospital, hospital staff will receive “low doses” of the vaccine from the state Department of Public Health, the hospital said in a statement.
“Careful planning is underway to ensure that vaccinated employees receive priority as per state guidelines,” the report says.
Vaccinations are expected to begin Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Umas Memorial officials are expected to deliver the first shots to staff on Thursday, spokesmen at each facility said. Worcester Medical Center plans to provide the vaccine to about 100 providers five hours a day.
Government Charlie Baker last week outlined a three-phase vaccine list for Massachusetts, under which priority is given to high-exposure residents and those most affected by the virus.
In Phase 1, health workers will receive initial volumes of “direct and co-facing care,” followed by nursing home and other long-term care facility residents and staff; First responders; Those in congregation care organizations such as prisons and homeless shelters; And other health workers who do not treat patients with corona virus.
The first vaccine shipment to Massachusetts this week will be distributed to 75 of the 77 Commonwealth hospitals, and nearly 60,000 doses of the two shot vaccines out of a total of 300,000 are expected to be received by the end of the month. .
