We recall several highlights of the first day of Pope Francis’ 34th apostolic journey abroad, which took him to Budapest, Hungary, and Bratislava, Slovakia.
The Pope played in Budapest on Sunday morning to visit the Hungarian capital.
His first stop was at the Museum of Fine Arts, where he met with the president and prime minister, then the country’s bishops, and finally representatives of various Christian churches and Jewish communities.
Pope Francis ended the visit with the celebration of Holy Mass in the Plaza de los Heroes, concluding the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress, which has been held all week.
The Pope boarded the papal plane and flew to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, where he met with representatives of the Ecumenical Council of Churches.
