Nitish Kumar said he said it “nonsense” and said, “I don’t want or expect (that).”
Patna:
Bihar’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, has all the qualities to become prime minister, but is not in the race for the post, according to his party, Janata Dal United said this evening after a meeting of his National Council in Patna. Asked about the matter, Kumar said he said it “nonsense”. “I don’t want or expect (that),” he said.
JD (U) senior leader KC Tyagi, who reported to the media after the meeting, stressed this. “Nitish Kumar is not a claimant for the post of Prime Minister. We are in the NDA and our candidate for the post of Prime Minister is Narendra Modi … Although Nitish Kumar has all the qualities that a Prime Minister requires,” said Mr. Tyagi.
Earlier this month, JD (U) top leader Upendra Kushwaha, after being named JD (U) parliamentary party leader, had called Nitish Kumar “prime minister’s material”.
“People have created Narendra Modi as prime minister today and he is doing a good job. But there are other people in the country who have the potential to become prime minister. Of them is Nitish Kumar. It should be said PM- material and it is not about challenging Prime Minister Modi. ” Kushwaha had said.
Kumar, however, had refuted it shortly afterwards, saying “There’s nothing like this. Why should it be (PM Material)? I’m not interested in all these things.”
However, he had plastered feathers in the field of the BJP, which is now a major partner in the alliance.
“Some leaders said he was prime minister. But there is no vacancy. Being prime minister and making a claim are different things. There is a difference between heaven and hell … We are a small party. How can we make that claim? “Said the party’s national president, Lallan Singh.
The JD (U) also passed several other resolutions, which the BJP is not expected to like. These include ensuring a caste-based census and making public the results of the Rohini Commission, which was formed by the central government to identify extreme backward castes nationwide.
On the issue of population control, the party also differed with BJP and in another resolution stated that instead of formulating a law, public awareness and education of girls will be much more effective for check population growth.
Nitish Kumar also assured that the party is participating in the call for seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections to be held next year from BJP, otherwise it will be free to run candidates.
But the first preference would be to compete as part of the NDA alliance, Tyagi said.
