(CBSDFW.COM) – A winter storm is underway throughout North Texas.

Heavy blowing snow entered the DFW Metroplex from the west in the afternoon.

Some important points to make:

1). This is the heaviest snow in the Metroplex in 11 years. At least 4 inches of snow is expected, maybe more.

2). Temperatures have been dropping throughout the day, even to low teens when heavy snow came. Strong northerly winds are creating sub-zero chills.

3). For the first time, there is a wind chill warning in North Texas. Tonight and Tuesday temperatures are expected to be dangerously cold.

4). Another snowstorm is expected in late Tuesday and Wednesday. It could lead to a dangerous coverage round for our southern counties.

Heavy snow and low visibility are expected to continue throughout the night. Sunday night another round will arrive, and this second round will be geared toward our southeastern and eastern counties. Road conditions remain treacherous and will be Monday night and most of the day.

We broke cold records for Valentine’s Day; the coldest temperature recorded on February 14 in our 123 year history of weather and also the coldest day. More records are expected to fall over the next two days, some of them over a hundred years old.

The coldest air in more than three decades has begun to move north Texas on Sunday night. Tuesday morning we expect a minimum of zero degrees at DFW. This is the coldest night we have had in over three decades.

Many houses of the rapidly growing Metroplex are not so old. If the house is less than 32 years old, over the next two nights you will find out if the exterior wall plumbing is properly insulated.

A second storm is expected to arrive on Tuesday afternoon and last all Wednesday. This could produce another round of two to four inches of snow (or more) for the Metroplex. It could also become a major ice storm for our southern counties, from Hill County to Henderson County and the south.

Please stay informed of this storm. The chances of an ice storm with this event can be extremely dangerous.

MONTH: First wind chill warning issued for North Texas

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing until noon Friday. This means that snow and ice will continue to be on many of the roads (especially the secondary roads) for most of the week.
