Hit and Run partially rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5

The Simpsons: Hit & Run it was one GTA-clone released in 2003 this would sell more than 3 million copies worldwide. Today, almost two decades later, Hit & Run it is fondly remembered and many expect the game to be remade or remastered. One fan decided he was tired of waiting and in one week built a demonstration of what Hit & Run the remake could look and play similar to Urreal Engine 5.

This stunning game show was created by Reubs, a big fan of the original Hit & Run who spent years as a boy playing the PS2 era classic. So he set out to recreate the game with Unreal Engine 5. First, he used a tool created by another developer, Lucas Cardellini, that allowed Reubs to export the original Hit & Run map to a file type that would work on Unreal. After that, Reubs goes uphe reviewed some textures using AI, while he recreated some textures from hand. The end result, after activating the ray tracing, is a clean and beautiful recreation of the original Springfield map.

He then used prefabricated models and resources he found online, such as a Homer model, an Unreal car, and stylized trees, to quickly assemble a playable construction. After that, it was just a matter of adding more details and features. He ripped the audio from the game to give Homer and other people the demo voices. Reubs also programmed coins and collectibles, as seen in the original game. He even went in and added some of the gags that can be found at Hit & Run. Finally, he was able to use all of this to recreate the game’s initial opening mission.

A reduced image of the appearance of the new map redone in the demonstration.

The end result looks impressive. It also makes me want a full, professional financing service made a new version of the game. If a fan uses cobblestones assets can achieve something so impressive in a week, I can only dnothing that could create a large team with a decent budget and a few years.

*Insert salivating gif of Homer. *

Unfortunately, it can no longer be downloaded because the cReactor pulled out the original link to it due to “copyright concerns.” I’m not surprised that some Disney lawyers may have has sent a nasty email about something which contains a ton of assets extracted directly from the game. Fortunately, when it comes to the internet, I guess there are places where you can still find the demo.

As for an official remake, it could happen but it seems unlikely. In a month of July interview with IGN, long time Simpsons writer Matt Selman said at the exit that he would love to do a remake Hit & Run, but that really doing so would involve a “complicated corporate pop.”Sidenote, this is my least favorite bad Aquaman.
