The American Actors Union announced that it has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Donald Trump that could lead to the expulsion of the outgoing president, longtime presenter of the famous reality show “The Apprentice.”
The SAG-AFTRA union voted “overwhelmingly” in favor of opening a trial for Trump’s violation of the Constitution, linked to the Capitol assault carried out by his supporters on January 6th.
The union’s disciplinary committee is examining the Republican magnate’s involvement in these acts, which is also the subject of a second indictment procedure in Congress for “inciting insurrection.”

“Donald Trump to attack values that this union has among the most sacred: democracy, truth, respect for our fellow citizens of all races and religions, and the sacrosanct freedom of the press, “said in a statement the president of the SAG-AFTRA , Gabrielle Carteris.
The disciplinary committee will also study the “dangerous disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting and ultimately threatening the safety of journalists,” orchestrated according to the union by the outgoing president.
Among the 160,000 members of the SAG-AFTRA are actors but also a large number of audiovisual media professionals in the most diverse areas.
“There is a direct link between this deliberate contempt for the truth and the attacks perpetrated by his supporters against journalists,” Carteris said.
“As a union, our most important role is to protect our members,” said David White, the organization’s chief executive.

If found guilty, Trump risks a fine, a suspension and even expulsion from the SAG-AFTRA, which generally provides its members with retirement benefits, as well as other benefits, such as access to certain films before its release.
According to the specialized media Deadline, Trump joined the ranks of the SAG-AFTRA in 1989.
