Honduran ex-convict sentenced to six years in prison for money laundering

Shirley Nicole Velásquez Morales, a former Honduran beauty queen, was sentenced in the last hours to six years in prison for money laundering.

Her arrest, made on October 22, 2019, in San Pedro Sula, next to her husband, Gerson Varela Flors, was given after not being able to justify the possession of $ 10,000, hidden in a cistern of the residence located in the colony Costa Verde villa II, in an exclusive Sampedrano sector.

Shirley Velasquez was a model on the acclaimed Honduran Sunday television show X-0 Da Money. In 2012 she won second place in the Miss Honduras beauty pageant, so she was awarded the opportunity to participate in the 2012 Miss Honduras International.

Velasquez Morales appeared in 2012 as the face of Miss International Honduras. In 2019, agents integrated into the National Inter-Agency Security Force (Fusina) also confiscated three luxury vehicles – one of these armored – in the couple’s home, in an operation called “Odysseus X”.

Since then, Honduran prosecutors have proceeded to prosecute Velásquez Morales. The result is the imposition of a fine of L.3,675,000. In addition, the house in which they were captured was confiscated. Velásquez Morales has been imprisoned ever since.
