The new antagonist of director and actor Clint Eastwood in cinema will be Mexican, and responds to the name of Horacio García Rojas, protagonist of the series “Diablero”.
The actor is one of the central characters of “To cry male, ”a story that tells the journey of an old round star, who helps a young man flee his alcoholic family so he can enter Texas from Mexico.
García Rojas, along with fellow Mexicans Eduardo Minett and Natalia Traven make up the national team for the 90-year-old Eastwood-directed film.
“It was a normal process of casting as I entered, when they tell you it’s a movie with this legend in the cinema you get excited, you read and you do a scene that apparently isn’t complicated, but they want to see certain things.
“I think they wanted someone with the ability to be a constant but relaxed threat, then you tell your agents to take him out cookie to be and a month later, you get the confirmation,” the actor explains.
The film, set in the 70s, will be shot in locations in New Mexico, United States, for which all health protocols have been arranged against the COVID-19.
“Male Cry” will be the 42nd production Eastwood directs. In his filmography are “Mystic River”, “The Sniper”, “Letters from Iwo Jima”, “The Unforgivable” and “Blows of Destiny”, the latter two earning him the Oscar for Best Direction.
Asked expressly, García Rojas indicates that skin color will not be synonymous with negativity in history.
“We are characters with nuances, it’s not white as good and brown as bad. They’re all characters with nuances because yes, obviously, it’s something that’s always in the controversy over the role of racialized individuals in the mass film industry; has browns that are the hope in the film, ”he points out.
García Rojas has worked on the series “narcos: Mexico “and starred in the films” The Cargo “and”Morenita“The scandal”. He began his film career in 2008 in the band of Tilda Swinton (“Doctor Strange” and “Michael Clayton”), after which he has integrated productions such as “The Beloved of the Centaur”, “Texas rising” and recently was in cinemas with “Without origin”.
“‘ Male Cry ’would be a balm for my career and the importance of being with a film institution, one of the last living film legends, immortal in its filmography,” he considers.
García Rojas joins the national actors who, in recent times, have been in leading roles in international films, including Diego Luna with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”; Eréndira Ibarra, currently shooting “Matrix 4” and Joaquín Cosío in the sequel to “Suicide Squadron”, to be released in 2021.
