Hospitalizations remain high as Utah reports 11 more deaths on Saturday from COVID-19

More than 15,000 people received the vaccine on Saturday.

The number of daily COVID-19 infections and deaths fell on Saturday, as did hospitalizations, although the number of people in the intensive care unit with the disease increased slightly.

Vaccines reported in total / last day vaccinations • 15.148 / 222.275.

Of those vaccinated, 27,542 have received both doses. Although the initial response to the Utah vaccination has focused on health workers and the elderly, 70 nursing homes and assisted living centers continue to have active outbreaks with infected residents, according to Department of Health data. Greetings from Utah. Nineteen of these outbreaks have more than 20 residents with COVID-19.

Cases reported last day • 1,771, which is 878 less than Friday.

Deaths reported last day • 11, although the Utah Department of Health reported that two of the deaths occurred before December 31, 2020.

Four of the deaths were in Salt Lake County residents: two men over the age of 85, a woman between the ages of 65 and 84, and a man between the ages of 45 and 64.

Davis County recorded two deaths, both men, one between the ages of 45 and 64 and one between the ages of 65 and 84.

Utah County also suffered two deaths, one male and one female over the age of 85.

Duchesne County had one death, a woman between the ages of 45 and 64, as did Sanpete County, a man between the ages of 65 and 84, and Washington County, a man between the ages of 65 and 84.

Hospitalizations reported last day • 481. This has dropped seven on Friday. Of those currently hospitalized, 196 are in intensive care units, four more than on Friday.

Tests reported last day • 10,001.

Percentage of positive tests • 17.7%. This is below the seven-day average of 18.9%.

Total so far • 334,889 cases; 1,582 dead; 12,948 hospitalizations; 1,958,154 tests.
