Washington – House Democrats released a dismissal resolution accusing President Trump of “inciting an insurgency” by the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, approaching to accuse the president for the second time less than two weeks before leaving office.
He dismissal resolution it was led by Democratic representatives David Cicilline, Jamie Raskin and Ted Lieu, which has the support of at least 210 Democrats. The bill says the president “engaged in crimes and misdemeanors inciting violence against the U.S. government.”
The resolution cites Trump’s speech to supporters on Jan. 6 near the White House before the crowd moves to the Capitol.
“Thus urged by President Trump, members of the crowd to whom he had addressed himself, in an attempt to, among other goals, interfere with the solemn constitutional duty of the joint session to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election, fail to · Legally and vandalize the Capitol, wounded and killed law enforcement personnel, threatened members of Congress, the vice president and congressional staff, and participated in other violent, deadly, destructive and seditious acts, “says the article.
An independent resolution tabled Monday by Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar includes a second charge of abuse of power related to the Capitol attack. An aide to Omar said the House leadership was considering including both charges in a final dismissal resolution.
Meanwhile, House Republicans blocked a measure drafted by Raskin, which called on Vice President Mike Pence to convene the cabinet and invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the incumbent president. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said the House will vote on the measure on Tuesday and could proceed with the removal if Pence does not act.
According to the 25th Amendment, the vice president can assume power as acting president if the majority of the cabinet determines that the president is “incapable of fulfilling the powers and duties of his office.”
