HOUSTON – When Justin Reid has some time before training camp practices, it’s not uncommon to see Houston Texans safety lining up to try a field goal or an extra point. And after the final practice of the jeans training camp on Thursday, Reid said it was his dream to get an extra point in a game.
He had a chance to show off his leg in the Texans ’preseason final Saturday night against the Buccaneers when he started the game because kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn was left out of the game with a minor injury.
Reid shot 64 yards at Tampa Bay 1 and the ball bounced back at 16. The Texans didn’t attempt a field goal in the 23-16 loss and went for a 2-point conversion the two times they scored a touchdown. . Reid, however, suffered after every Houston score.
“I hope I never have to [attempt an extra point] in the sense that Ka’imi is always there, because he’s clearly the team’s best salesman, “Reid said earlier in the week.” But it would be my dream to throw an extra point. “
When asked what the coaching staff says when it comes to pressure for the opportunity, Reid said, “They make me a little humorous and they say, ‘Maybe someday.’
