Houston area hospitals are preparing to receive nearly 60,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the coming days

Houston – Houston area hospitals are preparing to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Nearly 60,000 doses of the vaccine are expected to be distributed to hospitals in the coming days.

According to Memorial Herman, they will receive a dose of 16,575.

The government provided guidelines on who could receive the first dose of the vaccine. Dr. David Calendar, President of Recall Herman, said the decision on the number of doses was made based on a survey of the number of COVID-19 patients, hospital admissions and staff treating COVID-19 patients.

Calendar said workers working in the front line will be vaccinated first.

“We actually sent planning links for staff who are the first phase,” he said.

Twenty-one hospitals in Harris County, four in Montgomery County, one in Calveston County and one in Fort Bend County were selected to receive the vaccine.

Among those selected was Michael E. Debbie V.A. Medical Center, Selected 37 V.A. Including one of the hospitals. Assistant Medical Chief Dr. Pradeep Kulkarni said leading workers and veterans who are considered at high risk are eligible to take the vaccine as soon as it arrives.

Kulkarni said he has questions and concerns about the vaccine, but said he believes it has gone under severe evaluation and testing.

“What those tests have shown is that when you vaccinate tens of thousands of people there are no major concerns about safety,” Kulkarni said.
