Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo will conduct the COVID-19 session

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner are expected to hold a joint news conference Wednesday after seeing COVID-19 increase. It is not known what they will say, but Houstonians are wondering about the impact of possible new restrictions on the area.

Hidalgo and Turner will be joined by Harris County director of nutrition and chronic disease prevention, Dr. Sherri Onyiego, and the chief medical officer of the City of Houston, Dr. David Persse.

“People are barely hanging out right now,” Houstonian Jason Millis said.

Although new COVID-19 restrictions have just been announced that will affect Galveston and other counties in Southeast Texas, many expect that to not be the case in Houston.

“Everyone is trying to survive and it’s hard,” Sammie Tran told Vietopia in southwest Houston.

Tran has seen many friends close the store and says it has been groundbreaking. Another closure or setback could further force the doors to close permanently.

“When we were left with takeaway food it wasn’t enough. We need people sitting down to drink,” Tran said.

Spoon in Montrose has also been hung. They expanded to offer their customers peace of mind when they ate.

“It has been very hard from the beginning. We have reduced many hours,” said Lorena Tejeda, general manager of Cuchara.

Fortunately, no one has been let go, but it’s always a scary thought. Cuchara has lost about 40% of its business since the pandemic.

“Hopefully, [our local leaders] don’t cut it at all badly, ”Millis said
