In a letter issued to hospital staff last week, the president and CEO of Houston Methodist Dr. Marc Boom said the bonus will be given to employees in early March, but there are certain criteria that workers must meet.
“Eligibility criteria will include meeting a vaccine against COVID-19 [Houston Methodist’s] obligation as health workers to lead the community, ”Boom wrote.
While vaccination is not yet mandatory for Houston Methodist employees, Boom said it “finally” will be.
“We recognize the vital importance that we all get vaccinated to protect our patients, our community, ourselves, and our family and friends,” Boom said. “There is still discussion about the small number of employees who cannot get the vaccine safely.”
According to the Houston City Department of Health, the city’s COVID-19 positivity rate is the highest it has been since its peak in July, at 13.9%.
