Unsurprisingly, the Indianapolis Colts didn’t use the franchise label on any of their pending free agents this offseason, but there were a lot of teams that did, with an indirect impact on Chirs ’plan. Ballard.
In both labeled and non-tagged players, the Colts have a clearer picture of who they can look for in free agency, which officially begins on March 17th.
In all, nine players received the franchise tag, including some potential goals for the Colts.
Both Allen Robinson and Chris Godwin were tagged, which is no surprise. What’s interesting is the type of spike tip that will now hit the market.
Colts ’top targets like Romeo Okwara, Carl Lawson, Yannick Ngakoue, Shaq Barrett and Bud Dupree are on the market. The Colts have enough salary cap space to get an advanced runner to help them get through quickly.
There are also players like Jonnu Smith and Marvin Jones who will be available for the Colts if they feel so inclined.
Ballard has the money to make some moves this offseason, and after franchise label designations have been going on, he can now see a much clearer path if he needs to add to the rest or elsewhere.
