DETROIT – Welcome to Sunday evening, Motown!
Sunday evening we have a fresh fluffy snow blanket in Detroit and southeast Michigan. Many areas received an inch or less, but Oakland County and some neighborhoods got 1 to 3 inches. Even a small amount of snow can cause big problems, so be careful on the streets and sidewalks on Sunday evenings.
Scattered gusts recede after dinner on Sunday. Most of Monday will be dry during the day, followed by more snow for Monday night and Tuesday.
Sunday evening will be cloudy, with scattered showers and cold temperatures in the upper 20s.
Sunday night will be mostly partly cloudy and cold. The night lows will be in their late teens and early twenties.
It is likely that there will be more snow from Monday to Tuesday. A separate low-pressure area travels south of southern Michigan. Cold air will remain blocked at the site as the storm intensifies, accumulates moisture and throws it into southeastern Michigan in the form of light or heavy snow. The afternoon hours will be the 30th low, both Monday and Tuesday.
The first snowflakes arrive on Monday afternoon. Snow showers become heavier and more widespread Monday night and early Tuesday morning. On Tuesday it remains snowy with little snow on and off after sunrise and the rest of the day.
All detroiters will need their snow shovels. Some southeastern Michiganders will spend more time clearing snow than others. The heaviest snow will be from Detroit to Ann Arbor south to the Michigan-Ohio border. Starting Sunday, higher snow levels are expected to reach 3 to 5 inches between Monday and Tuesday. A lighter amount of snow (1 to 4 inches) will fall from Eight Mile Road north to I-69 and the thumb region.
Remember: Expected snow totals may change, so stay tuned.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be sunnier and colder. Daytime temperatures will be average and higher in the 20s. Nighttime and early morning lows will be in teens with chills close to zero at times.
