Robin Wright uses his extra time at home in the midst of the pandemic to deepen his film knowledge.
“I think my guilty pleasure of throwing the days away is going to bed and watching a movie on Criterion Channel,” Wright, 54, said on Friday’s “How I Get It Done” virtual panel The Cut at the Sundance Film Festival. “There are so many movies I haven’t seen that I realize … to watch old movies that can’t be found anywhere else.”
Wright, who premiered “Land” at the festival, noted that Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 film “The Man Who Knew Too Much” really left a mark on her.
“What a great movie and you’ll also see how everyone steals this person a little bit from that person,” he said, laughing. “… It’s a lot of fun to watch these 40s movies and say, ‘Oh my God, now I see where that director got that idea from.’
Actress and director Zoe Lister-Jones, who premieres “How It Ends” at the festival and also took part in the chat, said she has been recovering iconic shows and movies that she has never been able to see.
“I’m also seeing so much content because that’s what needs to be done,” he joked, adding that he saw “The Sopranos” completely.
“I started liking writing non-creative fiction about my childhood,” he added about his downtime in the pandemic. “It’s like making a diary but telling your story, I’ve found an interesting practice and exercise to dissect things in a new way about how I got here.”
