Like video chat, screen sharing is now a must-have tool for anyone who works or socializes from home. Unfortunately, sharing your device screen can pose a risk of privacy (or simply embarrassment) if no precautions are taken against it. excessive sharing. To help mitigate this risk, Google is testing a new feature that mutes Chrome notifications while sharing a Chrome window so your browser cannot transmit dirty clothes without notice.
While Google Meet now automatically mutes Chrome notifications, Chrome’s new feature works with screen-sharing apps, such as Messenger, Discord, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, for both computers and mobile devices. Activation prevents Chrome from sharing notification details with your audience and can help keep professional presentations distracting.
Instead of turning off notifications at all times, this only mutes them as you share the screen; they are not ignored or discarded. When you’re done sharing, you’ll be able to see any lost content from Gmail, Drive, and any third-party websites that send you notifications via Chrome.

Here’s how to try it:
- Download Chrome Canary for your device.
- Open your browser and go to chrome: // flags / # mute-notifications-during-screen-share.
- Select “Active” from the drop-down menu.
- Restart Chrome Canary to apply the changes.
With settings turned on, Chrome hides all the details of incoming notifications while screen sharing. The notification still appears on the screen with the Chrome icon, but it will simply say “content is hidden while the screen is being shared.” Select “Close” to hide the pop-up window. There is also an option to do so “Show all” if you want to allow all notification information to be displayed. Otherwise, the hidden information will only be visible after you stop screen sharing.
If you don’t want to download Chrome Canary, but still need a way to mute notifications or never want to see them cap Chrome Alerts: You can turn them off in your Chrome settings by going to Settings> Privacy and security> Site settings> Permissions> Notifications.
