How to watch the Apple event on Tuesday

Your spring calendar it probably already seems pretty crowded. Your vaccine appointments are coming; the family plans a visit; and maybe somewhere there you will attend a real appointment in person, the first in a long time. (How lucky.)

Leave room for this explosion-proof agenda to pencil in one more event, because Apple will make a media presentation tomorrow, April 20th. The event will be played live and you can watch it at home while the company displays some elegantly beveled new hardware.

It’s always hard to speculate what a company as secret as Apple might plan as these events approach, but we can set some reasonable expectations about what we’ll see at tomorrow’s event from some leaked information and some reports research at other points of sale. Most signs point to new iPads, specifically new iPad Pro models and an update to the recently revived iPad Mini. According to Bloomberg, the new larger iPad Pro will have a brighter, more technically advanced display, and the two Pro models will have faster chips and a Thunderbolt port to connect a wider range of accessories. Other reports indicate that we could see a new Apple Pencil on Tuesday, as well as the arrival of AirTags, the small location information widgets that work with Apple’s Find My app.

We’re pretty sure we won’t see a new iPhone, new AirPods or any preview of macOS or iOS. The iPhone’s hardware is traditionally released in the fall, and software processes are the highlight of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, which is already scheduled for June.

How to look

Apple’s presentation will begin at 1:00 p.m. East, 10:00 a.m. Pacific, turned on Tuesday, April 20th. You can play it right here in the player on this page. You can also watch the stream on Apple’s website, Apple TV app, or the company’s YouTube channel.

This Apple TV option is new last year; now that Apple has its own streaming service, it also has a dedicated video app on mobile devices, Apple TV boxes, Roku boxes, and on some smart TVs. You can open this app and find the option to play the Tuesday event regardless of whether you subscribe to Apple TV + ‘s monthly streaming service.

We recommend that you start streaming to your TV using the YouTube app or the Apple TV app. The company’s showcases, which are heavily produced, feature many high-impact images that look good in a larger format. Plus, if you watch it on TV, free up your laptop to quickly tweet to Apple’s enthusiastic twitterverse.

Expect Apple’s presentation to take about 60 minutes. Once the event is over, return to WIRED for coverage that completes the ads and highlights industry trends that Apple is responding to and advancing with its latest hardware.
