Faced with rumors of a possible merger of the MX League and MLS of the United States in a couple of more years, the former football player and technical director of the Mexican National Team, Hugo Sánchez, Expressed its total rejection to this idea, since it considers that by very little money they are selling the prestige of Mexican Soccer when combining it with the one of American country.
In his column for ESPN, Where he collaborates as a sports analyst, Hugo Sánchez showed his annoyance and negativity at the merger that MX League executives have shown concern with the MLS, making it clear that leaders are only looking for economic benefit and they don’t see beyond that, forgetting the repercussion it will have on the sports field.

Hugo argues that, from a very low economic benefit, Mexico would be helping the United States to raise its level of football by being in direct and constant competition with the clubs in the MX League, a situation that he does not think is appropriate.
Sanchez recalled his involvement in American football in the late eighties, when he played with San Diego Soccer, saying that the dream of the United States is to reach the level that Mexico has in football, so major efforts have been made to achieve this, hiring large international figures such as Pelé, Beckenbauer, Cryuyff, and stars who are about to retire.
It’s a “Give me your hand to teach me and share quality and talent, because I’m helping them get a lot of money,” Hugo wrote.
Sánchez stressed that the interest of Mexican managers is merely economic, since if they were looking to grow in sports, they would not have abandoned the competencies of CONMEBOL, where they would have a football development.
“For economic benefits, the managers decided to leave Mexican teams out of these competitions and this has harmed us in sports”
Hugo fears that this merger will end up being negative for Mexico in terms of sports, he predicted that in the future, with this system, the United States will equal and even exceed the level of Aztec football.
