Hunter Biden on Sunday tried to explain why he was dating his dead brother’s widow, but said he could understand why “people were confused” by the romance that raised eyebrows.
The president’s son discussed the reaction to the revelations he was dating his widow Beau Biden’s brother, Hallie Biden, in March 2017.
“I think people got confused and I understand. I really do, ”he said at an auction with CBS’s“ Sunday Morning. ”
“For me, it is not something that is difficult to explain, as it arose from a real overwhelming pain that we shared and we were together and we tried to do the right thing. And that pain became a hope for a love that could perhaps replace what we lost and didn’t work, ”he continued.
Hunter, who was still married to his then-wife, Kathleen, said he and Hallie were “incredibly lucky” that his family supported the unusual bond after Beau died of cancer in May 2015.
But others were not so understanding. Hunter revealed that he lost customers and business during this time.
“I made a lot of decisions that I probably shouldn’t have made,” said Hunter, who has long battled addiction and also revealed that he had searched through carpets for anything resembling crack cocaine..
“There was a lot more compassion and understanding for the people who knew me, but it was a horrible time.”
Hunter and Hallie separated later that same year.
He has since remarried a South African woman named Melissa Cohen just a week after meeting.
Hunter appeared Sunday morning on the news program to promote his new memoirs, “Beautiful Things,” on April 6th.
