Hurricane leaves half concert in New York

A concert full of stars to be held in Central Park, New York had to be canceled due to the impact of Hurricane Henri.

Barry Manilow had already started singing when authorities asked the audience to go home because of the threat. Police sent a message on Twitter urging those present to “walk calmly to the nearest exits and leave the park.”

After some confusion about whether the event would resume later, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted, “While it’s unfortunate that today’s concert had to end early, the most important thing is the well-being and security for all “.

The concert had been organized to celebrate what appears to be the beginning of the end of the coronavirus pandemic. Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Jennifer Hudson, Carlos Santana, LL Cool J, Andrea Bocelli and others were to perform.

However, there were already widespread fears that the event would trigger a further spread of viruses.

There have been a daily average of just under 2,000 virus cases in New York City in the last week, compared to less than 200 in late June. 54% of the population in the metropolitan area is fully vaccinated against the virus.

To enter the concert, which was free, attendees had to present proof of vaccination.
