New Hurricane Olaf is heading for a strike in the Los Cabos resort region at the tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico

MEXICO CITY – New Hurricane Olaf was on strike on Thursday in the Los Cabos region, on the tip of the Baja California peninsula.

It centered about 250 miles southeast of Cabo San Lucas Thursday morning with sustained maximum winds of 120 mph (75 mph). It was advancing north-northwest at 11 km / h.

The Hurricane Center said Olaf is likely to strengthen as it approaches the coast.

Hurricane force winds extended up to 55 miles from the center and tropical storm winds up to 185 kilometers.

The Hurricane Center said tropical storm winds were expected to begin hitting the tip of the peninsula in the afternoon or evening, making preparations difficult.

It was expected to bring 7 to 15 inches of rain to the southern part of the peninsula, with up to 25 inches to isolated points, creating the danger of rapid flooding and mudslides.
