I-70 stopped from Morrison in Silverthorne, eastern Colorado, as snow conditions worsened

DENVER – Interstate 70 closed in both directions from the Denver subway area to Silverthorne on Saturday evening and then closed in eastern Colorado as road conditions worsened with snow accumulation, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The road was closed from the C-470, near Morrison, to Silverthorne. All traffic was diverted to the C-470 due to the closure. Subsequently, the road was closed from Limon to Burlington, eastern Colorado, due to snowstorm conditions.

Road conditions worsened throughout the subway area, particularly on the west side of Jefferson County and as far as the foothills. A lot of snow was falling and it was expected to fall overnight.

Although not much snow had accumulated before Saturday, the colder temperatures after sunset caused more and more snow on the roads.

The I-70 was just one of several major closures in the Front range.

US 6 was closed through Clear Creek Canyon and Interstate 25 was closed between Wellington and the Wyoming border. In Wyoming, Interstate 80 was closed from Cheyenne to Rock Springs.

Although Saturday night was calm in much of the subway area, he was expected to return to the area after 10 p.m.
