“I don’t know,” Odebrecht testified in questions about alleged bribes paid to Diaz Rua

The defense of the defendant Víctor Díaz Rúa showed this Tuesday that part of the documents prepared by the expert company GR Compliance they possess multiple scratches and erasures in their content that could “hide relevant information”.

During the cross-examination by the defense, the “star witness” of the Odebrecht case, Dantas Bezerra, acknowledged that in several pages of text there were “black shadows”, scratches and stains.

Bezerra identified his signature in the documents extracted by the company, to which had repeatedly described them as “forensic experts”.

The Brazilian witness stated that in this specific case it is “normal” for a GR Compliance report to show scratches or erasures.

In the interrogation, where the defense demanded that Bezerra answer only with “yes or no,” the witness admitted that his signature was on the documents, however, it did not recognize if in him they appeared the transfers realized to Diaz Rua or his companies.

“I can’t say,” was the Brazilian construction company’s representative’s response to questions about bribes paid to defendant Diaz Rua.

The defense noted that the document signed by Bezerra, whose native language is Portuguese, was in Spanish so the witness may have understood “only part of the text.”

In response to that point, Bezerra said he understood because he was advised by outside attorneys whom he “trusted.”

The witness also stated that he was not present at the time the bribe money was transferred to Díaz Rúa, Conrado Pittaluga and Ángel Rondón.

In this case, the defendants face charges of receiving bribes of US $ 92 million from the Brazilian company to be awarded works contracts by the Dominican State.
