The goal of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition is best known for being more offensive compared to previous Street Fighter entries. Apparently, in response to this, Capcom adds the V-Shift, a new defensive mechanic, to Street Fighter 5 on February 22nd.
Liquid | Nemo recently released a video detailing his impressions of the upcoming V-Shift mechanic. At one point, he states that he would have preferred another offensive mechanic rather than a defensive one.
“We’ll have to see how it really works, but I would have preferred them to add a new offensive mechanic instead of a defensive mechanic,” Nemo said.
Nemo speculates that the V-Shift mechanic will be totally invincible against attacks, throws and projectiles from the first frame. He also suspects that this mechanic could make the offense more difficult for casual players as long as it exists.
In the future, it looks like players will have to be careful to cancel normal specials, as it can cause them to be punished by the V-Shift mechanic.
