Ian McKellen Getting the COVID-19 vaccine has warmed my cold heart

We are deeply affected by a global pandemic, Donald Trump is still technically president, and even the snow that elegantly killed much of the east coast last night is quickly turning to greyish groundhog. All of that was enough to put me in a really nasty mood this morning, that is, until I saw a video of beloved English actor Ian McKellen receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

The 81-year-old actor posted a tweet that “I would not hesitate to recommend [the vaccine] to anyone, ”which can have a big impact at a time when many still express doubts about vaccination.

McKellen, who was among the first groups eligible to receive the vaccine in the UK, along with health workers and home residents, said in a press release that he was impressed by the ease of the process and said: have a role to play in the fight against the coronavirus and, if we do our bit and get vaccinated, we will save lives ”.

I don’t know exactly why watching McKellen vaccinate has awakened so much joy in me, to be honest. Is it because seeing familiar faces do their part to protect themselves and their communities against COVID-19 gives me hope for a future in which I can safely leave my room with some regularity? Or frankly, is it because McKellen is the most charming man on earth and I just want him to be happy and safe?

Either way, it turns out the good news is … good, and we get a lot of it, like Prue Leith Bake fame also recently received the vaccine, which pronounced it as “painless.” Protect Prue and Ian at all costs.
