Ida hoped to hit Louisiana the same date Katrina devastated the area 16 years earlier
Hurricane Ida is expected to make landfall over Louisiana on Sunday, Aug. 29, potentially as a Category 4 hurricane, according to officials, which could “change lives” if residents do not take proper precautions.
It is estimated that in Katrina there are an estimated 1,800 deaths from the central Louisiana coast to around the Mississippi-Alabama state line. A wave of massive storm swept along the shores and cleared the houses of the map. In New Orleans, the failures of the federal dikes caused catastrophic flooding. The water covered 80% of the city and many houses were flooded to the roofs. Some victims drowned in the attics. The Superdome and the New Orleans Convention Center became scenes of stifling misery, as tens of thousands were stranded without electricity or running water.
Katrina still haunts the city, which has never fully recovered from its savagery.
New Orleans evacuates, as Hurricane Ida is expected to strengthen to Category 4 with winds of 140 mph
Mandatory evacuations were being ordered in Louisiana on Friday, while Ida was gaining strength in golf.
The center of Ida was located in western Cuba around eight in the evening, on Friday afternoon. Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and western Cuba suffered heavy rains, rapid flooding and mudslides throughout Friday evening.

The Saints Cardinals preseason game was canceled as Hurricane Ida shifted toward the Gulf Coast.
On Friday, the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals canceled their third and final preseason game scheduled for this weekend as New Orleans prepares for another major storm, 16 years after Hurricane Katrina.

Ida moved to the Gulf of Mexico
Hurricane Ida is moving into the Gulf of Mexico and on Sunday there is a danger of a life-threatening storm surge (10 to 15 feet above ground level).
