If you collect too many items, the Cyberpunk 2077 save file will be irreversibly damaged

File it in the list of issues affecting the AAA title of CD Projekt Red (CDPR) Cyberpunk 2077, but apparently, if you create too many items within the game, the save file will be irreversibly damaged and you will lose all the progress it contains. This issue started making rounds on GOG forums a few days ago, but has now come under scrutiny due to the company’s response.

In the same way that The Wizard 3, Cyberpunk 2077 it also allows players to collect various items to craft new materials for use or sell them for commercial gain. This is a fairly standard mechanic that is a basic component of major role titles. However, if you overdo it Cyberpunk 2077, you will corrupt the saved file and you will lose all progress.

As noted in several threads on Reddit and GOG a few hours ago, save files are limited to 8 MB. If you exceed this limit, which is very feasible if you want to collect and process articles, the save file will be irreversibly damaged. This is presented by a warning sign in the saved file that says “Saved data is corrupted and cannot be loaded.”

This problem is confirmed to be present in the PC version of the game, and other Reddit threads have indicated that the same goes for the game’s counterparts in the console. CDPR has confirmed the problem and stated that:

Unfortunately, the savings are damaged and cannot be recovered. Use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials. If you used the item duplication error, upload a save file that does not affect it. The saved file size limit may be increased on any of the future patches, but damaged files will remain that way.

While the CDPR has not confirmed why this limitation exists in the game, especially when this mechanic is such an important component of the “true” RPG experience, a technical limitation is likely to occur and will be fixed in the future. , currently scheduled for January 2021. However, until then, players are alone.
