iFixit today began dismantling Apple’s new AirPods Max headphones for one of its traditional device breakdowns, with the goal of determining whether “AirPods Max” can be repaired to some extent or an “electronic waste disaster.” The breakdown is ongoing and will be updated over the next few days.
This is an early partial disassembly that also includes a quick X-ray look inside the headphones. The X-ray view provides an overview of each headset’s battery cell, dual-ring speaker control magnets, alignment magnets, microphone holders, and more.
iFixit had no way to get into the “AirPods Max” and there was a lot of glue. There are two logic boards inside, full of chips, which iFixit plans to identify later in more detail.
So far, no other details are available on the AirPods Max, as the breakdown is underway, but iFixit says it will be updated over the next few days and there will be “many things to come”, including some surprises for fans of the earphones.
