On March 12, the football world was surprised by the separation of the marriage of Iker Casillas and Sara Carbonero. What began as a dream story during Spain’s title at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa ended in the signing of the divorce agreement in the last hours, according to different media Spanish.
The separation agreement between the couple left many former Real Madrid footballers free, which shows the good will of the parties to separate their paths after more than a decade as a couple and with a couple of children as a result of marriage.

Iker will have flexible visits to share with his children, but they stay living with their mother in a luxurious house in Pozuelo de Alarcón, a town near Madrid, where they also signed the divorce papers. The former footballer will be in charge of their education, according to Clarín.

The economic issue was one that had little relevance, as the fortune built by the man born in Móstoles allows him to have financial solvency to meet the academic expenses of his children. The Spanish press claims that Casillas’ assets are around 350 million euros (419 million dollars).
“Today our love as a couple takes different but not distant paths as we will continue together in the wonderful task of remaining dedicated parents as we have done so far. It is a very thoughtful decision and one we take by mutual agreement,” they said in the communiqué where the separation was made official.
A couple of days before the statement announcing the break-up, the magazine Lecturas d’Espanya stated that the relationship began to deteriorate after both faced severe health crises: Iker’s heart attack and Sara’s ovarian cancer, a reason that would have worn down their relationship a lot.
