Nile Rodgers said on social media Sunday that her mother, Beverly Goodman, died after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

“My #BeverlyGoodman #RIP mom passed away today around 6am,” the 68-year-old musician tweeted on Sunday. ‘I breathed some of my first breaths with her and she breathed a part of her last time with me. My brothers and I will get in touch with everyone soon. I’m asleep today.

The New Yorker accompanied the sad message with a photo of him on his mother’s bed who was ill.

Last week, co-founder Chic spoke of the anguish he experienced at not being able to connect in person with her during the holidays, as she was hospitalized under strict medical protocols amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“The saddest thing about this #COVID vacation is not being able to visit my #mom,” Rodgers said Dec. 23. I have learned to redirect or not, so I never bother with memory loss.

Rodgers earlier this month told The Mirror about his family history of the disease.

“Six family members have had Alzheimer’s,” he said. “We’re talking about my mother who currently has Alzheimer’s. And my mother’s sister, my aunt, died of Alzheimer’s. And her mother, my maternal grandmother, died of it and my mother’s sister. my maternal grandmother, my great-aunt, died, and so did her daughter, and so did my uncle.

He explained in the publication his work with the music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins and the impact of music on communicating with people.

“I think charity does the kind of work that should be done around the world,” he said. ‘I think musicians are the right ambassadors and being able to spread that kind of kindness and love to the whole world is amazing.

“Being at the helm is a very noble cause. I’ve seen the music reach the people in front of it.”

The Good Times artist received condolences from his teammates after the so-called smile.
