The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, reported that during August 2021 430,915 tourists have arrived in the country, of which 371,555 were foreigners.
In addition, he added that of the total number 59,360 were tourists of Dominican origin and 51,469 family visitors.
Collado assured that the country has recovered 96% of the influx of tourists arriving before the pandemic.
As for the statistics so far in 2021, Collado said more than two million non-residents have arrived in the country.
Mitur technical deputy minister Jacqueline Mora revealed they arrived in August 25,643, cruise passengers, 52% more than in July 2021 to 22 operations.
Regarding the economic activity “Hotels, bars and restaurants”, Collado added that sales were generated for RD $ 5,265.5 million, purchases for RD $ 1,020.8 million and RD $ 1,591.8 million in payment of ‘taxes.
The head of Tourism projected that by September 2021 the arrival of tourists will be more than 19% compared to August.
He estimated that from October to December 1,552,621 tourists would be received, to close 2021 with an estimated arrival of 4,840,376 tourists.
By the president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), Rafael Blanc Tejera, valued this recovery of the sector and has pointed out that still in the midst of the pandemic, investment in the country is still of interest for foreign entrepreneurs.
