IN DEVELOPMENT: “Outside Bukele dictatorship”, thousands of Salvadorans march against the government

Protesters took to the streets to demand that the government restore the rule of law and democracy. During the route through different streets of San Salvador they reported a blockade by the authorities and the presence of infiltrators in the march.

“It’s time to put a stop to it and that’s the way we can do it. He said it himself,” said Douglas Fonts, one of the Salvadorans who took to the streets to raise his voice against the Bitcoin Act. “I am unhappy with all government decisions,” he added.

The marches started from the University of El Salvador, 25 Avenida Norte, at the Rosales Hospital; in the Alley Roosevelt, of the Cuscatlán park and the place to the Divine Savior of the World; in Tutunichapa boulevard, around the judicial center; INDES area and on the Alameda Joan Pau II, at the height of the ISSS hospital and the Children’s Park. They marched until they reached the Plaza Morazán, in the center of the capital, where they began to concentrate after 10 in the morning.

“We are marching against militarism and the high cost of living. That is why we say no to dictatorship, no to re-election, no to Bitcoin,” says the Movement for Victims of Climate Change.

Around noon the crowd surrounds the Plaza Morazán where the first two levels of the main building were upholstered with banners rejecting measures taken by the government such as the unconsulted and impromptu implementation of Bitcoin, the re-election of Nayib Bukele, government authoritarianism in turn and concentration of power.

From the early hours, protesters gathered at checkpoints amid reports of blockades by authorities. On Roosevelt Street several trucks of the mayor of San Salvador closed the artery, while on the highway in Comalapa traffic officers were making stops, mostly minibuses and pick ups.

In the area of ​​the University of El Salvador, the allegations of blockade were more insistent. Protesters explained that a reptile in San Julian, Sonsonate, confiscated plates, traffic cards and licenses from a group that came to participate in the march.

In front of INDES, mostly war veterans gathered and started marching towards Plaza Morazán, in the center of the capital. The Agricultural Table Group also came to protest for the high cost of living and especially because they say they are not taken into account in the issue of agricultural products.

Protesters marching peacefully denounced more infiltrators. On 25 North Avenue, a group of hooded, black-clad people, who did not want to identify themselves, set fire to a motorcycle. According to witnesses, the motorcyclist wanted to go through the wax when the subjects snatched his motorcycle. Firefighters arrived at the scene to put out the fire.

After 10 in the morning the protesters began to arrive at the Plaza Morazán. A goat hut located at this site was set on fire by a group of people in protest.

For some days massive calls to participate in the march had circulated on social media where unions of doctors, judges and other sectors also announced their attendance for this September 15 in which the country celebrates the bicentennial of national independence.
