LOS ANGELES: The center of the Covid-19 pandemic in America’s second largest city has shifted from poor, crowded neighborhoods to affluent neighborhoods with younger populations.
Across Los Angeles County, cities and neighborhoods, including West Hollywood, Venice, and Santa Monica, now report some of the highest infections, although their vaccination rates are higher than in poorer areas, such as East Los Angeles. Angeles, where the Covid-19 ran through families and neighborhoods. during previous climbs, county health data is displayed.
The change is a consequence of the Delta variant, which spreads more easily among people who gather indoors in places like bars, clubs and restaurants and can affect vaccinated people, according to doctors.
Los Angeles shows how the Delta variant is causing a different increase than what happened earlier. Some other cities across the country, facing signs of a rise, are taking steps such as forcing masks or requiring vaccination tests to eat indoors instead of taking steps that include closures made early in the pandemic.
The new rise in infections causes public health officials to renew precautionary requests, regardless of vaccination status, as more people return to pre-pandemic activities. Although fully vaccinated people are much less likely to suffer serious illness or be hospitalized, according to hospitalization data across the country, Los Angeles health officials now tell everyone to wear masks indoors and take other precautions again, including social distancing when possible.
