A Christmas photo shoot, which took place in the state of Georgia, USA. UU., Became a focus of coronavirus infection: more than 50 children would be infected.
The event is part of the annual Christmas parade in the village of Ludowici, located in Long County. There a couple will decide to personify Santa and Santa Claus so that the children can be photographed with them.
As is traditional in this country, several minors sat on Santa Claus’ lap for the picture, but many of them did not wear mouthpieces.

Although during the celebration the costumed people wore masks, days later they began to show symptoms of covid-19. The test was performed and the results were positive.
Robert Parker, chairman of the Long County Board, said in a Facebook post that “there are countless disadvantaged children who have never experienced the joy of meeting Santa Claus. I know both of them (the disguised couple) and I can assure you that they would never have done anything on purpose to risk the health of the children. “
Parker, who said his children were also positive, was concerned about the chain of contagions that broke out on the day of the event.

The parade took place on Thursday, December 10, so most of the children attended school the next day. I went until Saturday 12th when the couple took the test and the results were delivered on Sunday, the day the community was notified.

County officials it was recommended to parents of children who approached ‘Santa Claus’ and his wife during the parade that he was quarantined for 14 days.
After the news broke, Parker told The New York Times that he had received hate messages from across the country, criticizing the county administration for holding a crowded event.

Follow me in the middle, “local outrage is minimal,” since all security measures will be taken. The children waited in line for the photo respecting the social distance and in the place there was a station to disinfect their hands.
Despite the situation, Long County plans to continue programming Christmas events, Parker said on Facebook.

“I speak on behalf of most officials to say that still we maintain the decision to move forward with these Christmas traditions to bring something out of normalcy in these difficult times. My children saw a photo with Santa and their smiles were bigger than any day at their school, where there is the same risk of exposure ”.
To date Georgia has recorded more than 541,000 cases of infection and about 10,000 deaths from the new coronavirus, while in the rest of the country the figure is 17 million infections. It has also reported more than 310,000 deaths across the United States.
