Increased risk of heavy storms Tuesday evening

DETROIT – It was another good weekend holiday day, with plenty of sunshine amidst some good weather clouds. Factor that with highs close to 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius) and a nice breeze, and sure there wasn’t much to complain about.

An approaching cold front is behaving and will cross our area overnight with scattered showers that did not affect our Sunday afternoon and will not affect our work day. I must love it when Mother Nature does it on a holiday weekend. Monday morning lows should be mid to 80 to higher (14 degrees Celsius), with westerly winds at 5-10 mph.

Tonight’s sunset is at eight in the evening and the sunrise on Monday at 7:04 in the morning

Labor Day and the threat of storms ahead

Mostly sunny on Monday – a delicious day off for most and the start of Rosh Hashanah for some (The Shana Tova Tikateivu if you’re partying!) – with highs in the mid-70s (25 to 26 degrees ) Centigrade). West wind between 8 and 13 mph.

Announcements

Mostly clear Monday night, with lows in the mid-1950s (between 11 and 13 degrees Celsius).

Tuesday is the day of concern. First, most (not all) hours of the day should be dry, with at least partly cloudy skies. It will be windy in the afternoon, with southwest winds that will increase from 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 30 mph, pushing highs in the 80s low-medium (28 to 29 degrees Celsius).

Then a line of strong to severe storms crosses the area Tuesday evening. I hope a solid line develops (not just scattered storms), so we’re all at risk, though I think the biggest risk of damaging wind gusts, hail, and even a tornado is the north and west they meet. in our area due to the fact that storms will get there sooner when it’s hotter, not to mention the position of a core of stronger winds blowing through southern Michigan.

These storms will also have torrential downpours, so there may be localized flooding, although this can be mitigated by the fact that this front is moving east quite steadily, thus limiting the amount of time it takes. there will be no storm over.
