Indonesia’s monsoon floods: more than 1,300 in Jakarta forced to evacuate

Severe monsoon flooding in several areas of Indonesia’s capital forced more than 1,300 people to breathe on Saturday, Reuters reported.

The big picture: The country’s weather agency warned that conditions are expected to worsen, as the heaviest rain of the season could fall in and around Jakarta over the next week, according to Reuters.

  • Officials said early Saturday that about 200 neighborhoods have been affected by the flood.
  • The floodwaters reached almost 6 meters in height in some areas, according to Reuters.
  • The news agency noted that the floods occur as the country continues to see a large number of coronavirus cases.
