Intel has been on a relentless marketing push against Macs in recent weeks, placing them as inferior to Intel-powered Windows laptops. However, in a small intellectual shift, Intel has mistakenly used a MacBook instead of a Windows laptop in one of its most recent announcements to promote one of its new 11th generation chips as “the best processor Of the world”.
The ad appeared on Reddit and it was shared on Twitter by @juneforceone, and features a man using what clearly appears to be a MacBook Pro. The ad slogan says, “The best processor in the world on a thin, lightweight laptop” and is intended to promote the Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor.
The image Intel uses in the ad is actually a stock image provided by Getty Images, which clearly shows that the laptop is in fact a MacBook Pro with an accompanying Magic Mouse.
Apple continues to sell Mac computers with Intel chips, despite its continued transition to its own Apple silicon. Although Apple still sells Intel-based Macs, the chip referred to in the ad is not used on any Mac, and in fact was launched at the same time that Apple launched its Apple silicon chip. M1 late last year.
One of Intel’s most notable marketing campaigns was launched last month and features former “I’m a Mac” actor Justin Long in a series of videos comparing a BookM1-powered MacBook Pro with a large variety of Windows laptops. Although the two companies are going head-to-head, Intel’s newly appointed CEO Pat Gelsinger says he expects his company to make silicon chips from Apple in the future and have Apple as a normal customer.
