Inter Miami confirms the departure of coach Diego Alonso “by mutual agreement”

Inter Miami CF announced today that the club and coach Diego Alonso have agreed to part ways.

“On behalf of the organization, I want to thank Diego for his hard work and dedication during our inaugural season and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Inter Miami CF manager Jordi Mas . “This was a difficult year and a very tough decision for everyone, but we believe it is the right step for the Club. We have high expectations for Inter Miami in the short and long term.”

“Going through this inaugural season’s trip with Inter Miami has been an amazing experience and I am grateful to the group of owners for the opportunity. I want to thank the staff for their work and friendship, the players for their effort on the field. and especially to the fans for their constant support throughout the year. I wish them all the best in the coming season, “Alonso said.

On Wednesday, ESPN reported that David Beckham, majority owner of Inter Miami, is leading advanced negotiations with his former Manchester United teammate Phil Neville to take control of the team, while negotiating with England’s women’s national team to leave this position and emigrate to MLS.

Inter Miami finished with a regular season record of seven wins, three draws and 13 losses, finishing tenth in the Eastern Conference. The club was eliminated from the MLS Cup playoffs on November 20, 2020.

Alonso helped oversee a number of important moments in the Club’s first year, from the team’s debut to his place in the playoffs, becoming the seventh MLS franchise to qualify for the playoffs in the its inaugural season.
