Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi in Sharm el-Sheikh. This is the first official visit by an Israeli prime minister to Egypt in a decade.
The meeting lasted three hours and the two leaders discussed regional, diplomatic, security and economic issues, a statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office said.
The two met in private and later a larger delegation joined. Among the officials of the Israeli delegation was Yaron Blum, the chief negotiator for the release of Israeli captives in the Gaza Strip.
After the meeting, and before his departure for Jerusalem, Bennett said the meeting was good and important and laid “a foundation for a deep connection in the future, which will serve the interests of the two nations.”
