By Decree 741-20, the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, was awarded the Order of Merit by Duarte, Sánchez and Mella for his work as US Ambassador to the country, Robin Bernstein.
The decree, which consists of two articles, was read by the legal adviser of the Executive Branch, Antoliano Peralta.
“I agree with this recognition, not only on my behalf, but also on behalf of my entire team, my husband and the administration of President Donald Trump. I agree with this award from Duarte, Sanchez and Mella and I assure you it will have a very special place in my home, “Bernstein said through his interpreter before exclaiming in Spanish. “Thank you very much Dominican Republic.”
After Bernstein, President Abinader spoke who thanked the ambassador for her work during this period of health and economic crisis caused by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“You were a key piece in bilateral relations between the United States and the Dominican Republic. As I said, you love the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Republic loves you,” the President of the Republic said. during their participation.
The event was attended by the Chancellor, Roberto Álvarez; in addition to Bernstein’s relatives, including her husband Richard Bernstein.
“In her two years, Ambassador Bernstein knew how to gain the trust and warmth of the Dominican people and knew how to divide her hard work to explore Dominicanness and even learning to dance meringue, as well as show the passion that she and her husband feel for baseball, a passion that unites the United States with the country, “said Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez.
The chancellor also thanked Bernstein for his support during the coup he has received from the Executive Branch after assuming governability during the coronavirus outbreak (Covid-19).
“You have played a very important role in helping us get the state in the midst of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. It is my duty to tell you and your husband that they have a second home here. in the country, “Alvarez exclaimed out of his involvement.
According to Chancellor Alvarez, this is the “highest decoration” given to a foreigner who is not a head of state.
