The Government of Honduras denied on Saturday via Twitter that President Joan Orlando Hernández has accepted drug money from the alleged drug trafficker Geovanny Daniel Fonts Ramírez, Who is being tried by U.S. justice.
“The version that the president Juan Orlando Hernández allegedly accepting drug money from a Geovanny Daniel Fonts Ramirez, or giving protection or coordination to drug traffickers, is 100% false and appears to be based on lies from confessed criminals seeking revenge, ”he wrote on the social network Presidential House.
In the indictment of the New York District Attorney’s Office against Geovanny Daniel Fonts Ramírez, It is mentioned that President Joan Orlando Hernández “accepted bribes from drug traffickers and had the country’s Armed Forces protect a laboratory from cocaine and shipments to the United States.”
So far, Hernandez has not been formally charged with anything by U.S. authorities and has repeatedly denied having benefited from the financial support of drug traffickers and falsely accusing him of seeking revenge for taking drastic action against them.
The documents filed Friday before the southern district of New York do not specifically name Honduran president, they only refer to CC-4 (co-conspirator 4) as brother Juan Antonio Hernández, who was found guilty in 2019 of drug trafficking, port and use of weapons and lying to authorities by a jury in the Federal District Court of the Southern District of New York.
In the case of Geovanny Fonts Ramirez
The alleged Honduran drug trafficker Geovanny Daniel Fonts Ramírez was arrested by agents of the Drug Control Administration (DEA) on March 1, 2020 at Miami International Airport, Florida, USA.
According to New York Court court records, Fonts Ramirez was allegedly a partner in former Honduran MP “Tony” Hernandez.
Fonts Ramirez is accused of conspiring to import cocaine into the United States, using and transporting machine guns and destructive devices during and in connection with, and possessing machine guns and destructive devices to encourage, the cocaine import conspiracy; and conspire to use and transport machine guns and destructive devices during and in connection with, and possess machine guns and destructive devices to promote the cocaine import conspiracy.
