The Telfair County Sheriff’s Department says Robert C. Lee, 42, escaped from the courtyard Friday afternoon.
He is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities believe he could be heading to the Jacksonville area because he has family in the area. He was initially arrested in Jacksonville on a Georgia warrant for armed robbery.
Deputies, U.S. marshals, the Georgia State Patrol and other agencies are looking for Lee. He was last seen wearing gray shorts and a white T-shirt. It is 6′3 ″ and weighs 175 pounds. He has a tattoo of a chessboard on his left arm and a game board on his right.
Duval’s court documents show that Lee escaped from prison before 2001, when he was jailed for a major robbery.
His previous records also show that he served his prison term in Florida for an aggravated battery to a pregnant victim. His most recent charge is issuing forged invoices in 2013.
News4Jax security and crime expert Ken Jefferson said if Lee returns to the Jacksonville area he probably won’t stay long because police will look for him here. Telfair County is about three hours from Jacksonville.
Announcements
“For people living in Jacksonville who know him and know he used to live near them, they need to be especially on high alert,” Jefferson said.
News4Jax spoke with Lee’s mother on Saturday and learned she was on the phone with the sheriff’s office Saturday morning. He said he doesn’t know where he is.
Anyone who sees Lee should call 911 immediately.
